Whether your old water heater has decided to call it quits, or you’re just looking for an upgrade for your home, it’s important to know that you aren’t limited to conventional water heaters. Tankless water heaters are a great solution if you’re tired of running out of hot water, working with limited space, or you’re simply looking for another way to save money. Below we take a deeper dive into the benefits of tankless water heaters when compared to their conventional counterparts.
1. Never run out of hot water again
Most of us can relate to the dismay that occurs when the water runs cold when you’re only halfway through your shower routine. A tankless water heater eliminate this issue as it will never run out of hot water. Instead, it heats the water “on demand” as it runs through the system—unlike conventional water heaters that have a limit to the hot water they can hold based on the size of their tank.
2. Save some room
If you have a small amount of space to work with, or don’t want a gigantic water heater taking center stage in your newly finished basement, a tankless water heater is the perfect solution. With no tank to make room for, they take up far less place than conventional water heaters, and can even be tucked away behind doors or in a closet.
3. Be more efficient
Tankless models are more efficient than conventional water heaters—it’s estimated that they use 30 to 50% less energy. This is because they provide hot water on an as needed basis, instead of keeping hot water in a tank that isn’t being used right away—which requires more energy.
4. Save money
While tankless water heaters do cost more up front, it’s a worthwhile investment: they typically last 5 to 10 years longer than conventional water heaters, and all that energy they save equates to more money in your pocket. According to energy.gov, “Energy Star estimates that a typical family can save $100 or more per year with a qualified tankless water heater.”
